I return to mans earliest cultures for inspiration, using the gesture of tribal rituals and symbols of mythology. I combined primitive forms with modern concepts to create new and unique images that resinate on many levels. In my work I tried to find a richness of meaning that enlivens and illuminates our lives. Henry Bianchini was born in San Diego, California 1935.
He lived in various locations growing like New Jersey, Rhode Island, St. Thomas Virgin Island and Argentia, Newfoundland. He married Dianne Denton in 1965 and began building a 30' Trimarman, "Island Dancer" which became their home for the next 7 years. In 1969 Henry & James Olsen sailed the "Island Dancer" to the Big Island of Hawaii. Henry began painting and carving Hawaiian wood after building a studio in 1971 Opihikao, Hawaii. By 1975 Henry & Dianne had 3 children. He attributes his art beginning through american modern contemporary art influenced by jazz musicians and painters Frank Ewbank and Dale Moore in the late 50's. Bianchini began casting his own bronze leading to a distinguished career in Hawaii with seven public sculptures on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island.
One collector close to his heart was the renown photographer, Brett Weston. Brett purchased a Bianchini sculpture in 1979 and remained a close friend and collector until his death in 1993. Bianchini has had numerous awards, 20 one man shows and credits East Hawaii Cultural Center, UHH Theatre of performing arts, Wailoa Center, Volcano Art Center, Donkey Mill Art Center for nurturing the Big Island art community over these many years. hawaiian wood island artist
